The Challenge
By 2024, MediQuick had earned real trust. Five solid years of helping people, and it showed in the feedback.
But when we looked under the hood, their website was only pulling in around 8,200 visits a month. Not bad—but not where it should’ve been.
The weird part? They had everything going for them. A strong product, loyal customers, and a clear mission. But they weren’t showing up when people searched for things like “online pharmacy South Africa” or “buy medication online.” Big terms. High-intent traffic. And they were missing out.
Here’s what was holding them back:
- They just weren’t visible enough in search results—especially for key health-related searches.
- Technical SEO stuff, like schema markup, wasn’t being used properly. That meant their listings weren’t standing out.
- The site didn’t have enough quality backlinks to go head-to-head with other big names in the medical space.
- A lot of the meta titles, descriptions, and even some of the content felt outdated—and that made it hard for Google to figure out what pages were really about.
That’s when Thandi and James reached out to us. It was May 2024, and they were ready to take things up a level—to turn MediQuick into the online pharmacy South Africans think of first.

Optimizing Schema Markup & User Intent
Getting Noticed: Rich Snippets Done Right
One of the first things we did? Dig through Semrush and spot a bunch of high-value keywords people were actually using—like “buy antibiotics online South Africa.” Solid intent behind those searches. The kind of stuff you don’t want to miss.
To help MediQuick show up better in search, we rolled out schema markup using Google’s Structured Data Markup Helper. We added Product, MedicalCondition, and Organization schema—basically tagging up all the right info so Google could display richer search results. Think pricing, treatment summaries, company info—right there in the SERPs.
Not long after, Google Search Console showed that 4,900 keywords were now triggering those rich snippets. Even better? Click-through rate jumped 11.3%%. That’s a lot more eyes—and clicks—on their pages.
User Intent (Tapping Into What People Really Want to Know)
We didn’t stop at keywords. We wanted to understand what people were actually asking. So we went deep into Google Search Console and found questions popping up in the “People Also Ask” sections—stuff like “How to safely buy medication online in South Africa?”
We used Semrush’s Content Template Tool to guide us, then worked FAQ sections into MediQuick’s homepage, treatment guides, and product listings. But we didn’t just stuff in keywords—we brought Thandi and James’s voice into the answers. Real advice from real experts. No fluff.
It paid off. According to Google Analytics, users were sticking around 14.79% longer on pages with FAQ content. That’s time spent reading, not bouncing. Which tells us we were giving people what they came for.

Content Optimisation & Backlinks
Keeping Content Fresh
To combat content decay we used Ahrefs’ Content Explorer to monitor MediQuick’s article performance and find outdated pages.
We updated treatment guides and product reviews, added “last updated” dates and refresh schedules, signalled via Google Search Console’s URL Inspection Tool.
Building Authority with Targeted Backlinks
Using Ahrefs’ Link Intersect Tool we found link building opportunities by looking at competitors in the South African healthcare space.
We got 19 high quality backlinks from medical blogs, local health forums and wellness sites through guest posts and partnerships with South African pharmacies.
- Optimising On-Page SEO with Meta Titles and Descriptions
- We used Semrush’s On-Page SEO Checker to audit MediQuick’s meta titles and descriptions and found generic or outdated tags.
- We crafted concise, keyword rich meta titles and descriptions for product and treatment pages, targeting terms and saw a 15% increase in click-through rates for optimised pages as tracked by Google Analytics.
